I bought these tires to make it up a steep unplowed dirt road. We have a
Honda Odyssey and the tires fit perfectly... a little too perfectly in
fact. They had to be in exactly the right place to get them on. It might
have helped to take a little air out of the tire or get a chain that
was slightly larger. It took us 30 minutes to figure it out. Once they
were on, we had no problems. We made it up the hill with 8-10 inches of
unplowed snow. The chain has a tightening adjustment for smaller tires,
but our tire was the maximum size. Everything you need is in the bag.

an errand an luckily threw the chains in my vehicle, because in order to
get back home I had to chain up or I wouldn't have made it home. My
vehicle is a rear wheel drive pickup, but I was going places that four
wheel drive vehicles were having problems. My first installation was
baptism under fire. The hardest part of the installation is hooking the
back hoop of the chains. You want to make sure your vehicle has enough
clearance between the tire and the body to allow you to reach in and
make the connection. The connection is easy, but if your clearances are
tight you may have some problems. After the back hoop is connected the
rest of the installation is very simple. Once you have the chains
mounted and you move the vehicle forward or backwards the chains will
true up as advertised and tighten because of the design. I don't think
most women would like the back hoop hookup because their sleeves are
going to pick up the dirtand grime from the tires as they make the
connection. Thule supplies you with a piece of plastic as a ground
protector for your clothes as well as long clear plastic gloves neither
of which were very substantial particularly if it is windy as it was the
day I had to chain up. I would recommend you by a kneeling foam pad
from a nursery and keep it in your vehicle to keep your knees dry and
figure your sleeves are going to get dirty. All in all though the best
tire chains I have ever purchased. By the way I am over 70 years old.

I almost didn't buy these chains because of the price, but I decided to
drop the cash and give them a try. What a brilliant decision!
They
install so easily and with the auto-tensioner, there's no more pulling
some black circular rubber band thing and trying to hook it in 5 places
along the chain. You hook the chains around the tire, slip the
auto-tensioner piece through the hole until there is no slack and drive.
Taking off the chains is just as easy.
I
feel sorry for the saps on the side of the road struggling with their
chains, then end up paying some chain installer to help them out.

purchased a new GMC 4x4 2500 HD Sierra and the tire/wheel size is
larger than my old pickup... I got onto Amazon late yesterday, ordered
two new sets for the GMC, front and rear, and less than 24 hours, here
they are. This makes my 5th set of these. Needless to say, they worked
well for me and anyone that has provided a less than favorable review, I
have no idea why they are not as satisfied as I am, except to believe
they are not installing them correctly or driving way too fast, or they
don't remove them soon enough as they drive off of snow/ice onto payment
that is dry or free from snow.)

I
purchased a 2010 Chevrolet 2500 4X4 last year and from previous
experience of driving 4 wheel drive pickups as a civilian and in the
Army, I knew 4x4s gave inexperienced drivers too much confidence in
certain snow conditions, especially on roads having hidden layers of
frozen ice underneath snow. I would have purchased 2 sets last year, but
I read several bad reviews about the cables and decided just to try one
pair. When my first set arrived, they were in use a few weeks after
Amazon sent them.
I was very impressed with the ease of
installing these compared to conventional heavy tire chains I've used in
the past. I'm pretty darned decrepit but it was very easy installing
these. I practiced first in my driveway on a "nice" warm day. It is a
simple matter of laying the cables in front of or behind the tires on
the ground and then pulling your vehicle directly over the cables and
"draping" them on top of and over the tires and fastening a small hook
on the back, and a "clog" like catch about the size of a pencil eraser
on the outside.

Some owner's manuals state that certain tire sizes do not provide enough
clearnace to accommmodate winter traction products. The fact is, many
of these vehicles can use SCC's Super Z6. Trying to measure the nearest
obstruction under your vehicle could prove tricky.

I have yet to use them in bad road conditions, but checked the fit on a
2010 suburban stock tires and wheels and they are perfect (size 267).
They go on very easily and appear to be be well built and have everyhing
needed to run chains on your tires. Excellent value to protect your
ride from slipping off the road or in to something.

I was wary of buying these chains without any
Amazon reviews to go off of, but I read reviews and forum comments from
other sources on the web to find that Peerless makes a great product. I
made the leap, and I am extremely happy with what I got. First, I'll
give you the positives, then I'll list a couple of negatives or
potential negatives.
FITMENT & INSTALL - I have a Tacoma with
31/10.5/R15's, matched my tire size to the correct Peerless product
using the convenient fitment guide provided (at least at this time) on
the Amazon product page (there is also a fitment guide on the Peerless
website, I double-checked because I'm paranoid like that). The
installation process is lined out in 6 steps with the provided
installation guide, and it takes me about a minute to 90 seconds per
tire to get the chains on. The small amount of slack that will be in
the chains to begin with will quickly be worked out after a couple
hundred feet or less. I usually double-check after rolling for a while
to be sure the ratcheting system is working properly, but I haven't run
into any problems yet.
****** EDIT ****** - After reading some of
the reviews that followed mine, I realized a lot of people are having
fitment issues. I would advise taking the recommendation of other users
and sending Peerless an e-mail before purchasing these chains online
just to be sure these will fit your tires. Certain tires sizes have
multiple chain sizes that are listed as compatible. Sending Peerless an
e-mail would remove the guess work on your part and potentially prevent
a future headache. Remember, chains will only work if they fit.

Cars today are advanced, their computers can tell us when the tire pressure is low, some give us the exact tire pressure reading. But what about when the low tire pressure warning light stays on after a tire has been repaired or replaced? Tire and auto repair shops today need to have the right auto specialty tool to deal with this. Choosing a TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) tool that can reset the warning light on most makes of vehicles is needed, since most shops work on more than one type of car.
Direct or Indirect TPM systems are used on cars today. Direct tire pressure monitoring systems have sensors that can measure the exact tire pressure in each tire (including the spare on some models). The tire pressure sensors are either mounted by a steel band or built into the valve stem. These type sensors have a battery that can fail over time like any other battery. The sensors are not serviceable, so when the battery fails the unit is replaced. The idea is that equally inflated tires will travel at the same speed. The computer detects the slight difference in speed of the under inflated tire and turns the warning on.

For instance if you have the Ford Rotunda TPMS tool it will work only on Ford and not Chevrolet, Nissan etc. The OTC 3833 Tire Pressure Monitoring Reset Tool is a very popular choice when it comes to TPMS auto specialty tools. The reason is that it is made by OTC and has software that allows it to have a wide range of coverage, not just one manufacturer.

Anyone involved in the forestry or logging business knows a thing or two about skidder tirechains. Skidders, those heavy, four-wheel tractors used to haul logs - especially over rugged terrain, are an extremely useful tool for getting logs from one location to another. Because the landscape around loggers tends to be more harsh than most drivers are used to, special skidder tires provide extra traction.
Of course, when skidder tires aren't enough, skidder tirechains can provide the extra traction necessary to get through any job. Running upwards of ,000, skidder tirechains are available in several different varieties. With grapple skidders, most loggers prefer to use heavier skidder tirechains because of the horsepower. For the forwarders, which don't have a lot of clearance, the same result can be achieved with lighter tirechains.
As with other tirechains, the golden rule for getting the best performance is to keep them tight. If the skidder tirechains are too loose, they wear out. Of course, some loggers experience the other extreme - they put the tirechains on so tight that the tires wear out right in the center. The best advice is to follow the manufacturer's directions for installation. Once you've got your tirechains on, remember to rotate them every 800 or 1,000 hours, as tirechains wear down just as tires do. By taking care of their tirechains, a logger can expert a set to last three to five seasons.

Tirechains are considered to be the safest and surest bet for hassle free travel on snow covered roads in winter. These additional straps prevent the vehicle from getting stuck in the snow. An emergency tirechain is an ideal traction aide when stuck in deep snow or when about to get stuck. It is extremely easy to install and remove and could be used by all types of vehicles. They are used for emergency short-term use only and would prove unsafe when used for longer distances. Use of emergency tirechains is approved by law in almost all states of America except when mentioned otherwise.

These days a lot of gasoline they are peddling at the pumps contain ethanol. Ethanol absorbs water from the atmosphere. If you ride your motorcycle regularly during summer, a few tanks of gasoline burn and its accompanying by-product which is water will go straight out to the exhaust.
But when it is winter and the bike is inactive, the water just settles in the tank and fuel system. That results in all kinds of maintenance problems. The fuel and water will mix,creating gum-like deposits in the fuel nozzles and carburetor. Although adding a few drops of gas preservative or fuel stabilizer (Stabile and Sea Foam) into the tank before each fill up, might prevent gas tank corrosion.
Changing oil and filter at proper interval during cold months will prevent unwelcome by-products we call gunk from mixing into the oil. In warmer season the gunk just burns off when the engine starts to warm up.
But during winter, ambient frigid temperature won't help the engine to warm up enough to evaporate the gunk. So drain the old oil and filter,replace it with new oil. Ride your bike around the block to be sure fresh oil has diluted the nasty by-product. Slosh it around and coat everything inside the tank.
Tires are also another thing to consider. Traction during winter is dodgy. So check tire pressure and tread depth. Use a reliable tire gauge. At least fifty percent of the tread left is minimum, before venturing out on a slimy slurry winter roads. Inflate tires at suggested maximum pressure.
To avoid developing flat spots on tires, get your motorcycle blocked up off its wheels by using a work stand. Roll the motorcycle or rotate the tires every other wheel if you can't get them off the floor. Store tires away from compressor,washing machines, freezer etc. away from all source of ozone.
If the brake fluid changes from its amber color to a darker hue, it means the brake fluid has absorbed that much water. It should be also be replaced. Same with hydraulically operated clutches wherein accumulated fluid impairs clutch dis-engagement particularly when engine is hot. Before storing the bike or right before riding it again, either way, old brake fluid should be replaced.
If a weekly rub-a dub on your motorcycle is not convenient, hit the do-it-yourself car wash. After that, make sure your motorcycle is thoroughly dry by taking a long fast ride. An effective way to get all the nooks and crannies dry out.
Apply wax to painted parts and chrome polish the chrome components. Replace the lubricants of cables,chain,control lever,drive shaft,locks,linkages,saddle hinges etc. Move it in a circular motion as you apply the lube just to get it into mechanism. Buy a variety of lubricants like WD40,LPS3 or S100 corrosion protectant, Maxima's chain wax and other smaller components can be lube with Vaseline. Exhaust pipes could be sprayed with WD40. Keep the lube away from tires,grips and foot pegs.
Dirt, dust,road salt absorb moisture and are corrosive. It will eventually damage paint and metal. So to forestall rust, corrosion and aesthetic damage to your motorcycle, bucket wash and wipe clean your bike regularly.

Many people shop at swap meets to save money and get good deals, and cold winter days do not stop them.
Many people begin shopping more at indoor flea markets because they like the warmth, but the hardcore flea market shopper will still hit the outdoor flea markets even when it is snowing, because they know that since many people wimped out and went indoors, that leaves all the bargains for them. In the past changing a timing chain or timing belt only required basic tools to get the job done. The camshaft and crankshaft sprockets only went on one way due to the design that used a key-way which only allowed the pulley to go on one way. Alignment marks for the cam and crank were aligned per directions from the service manual. Now many engines have no key-way and the pulleys are pressed on. Since the key-way is not used in increasing number of vehicles, specialty automotive tools are required to properly Align the cam and crank.
Looking for the Marks. Many auto mechanics, when changing a timing chain in the past could just look for the timing marks and not even have to look up the timing mark diagram in the service manual (me included). It was pretty simple, bring the number one cylinder to top dead center and look for the obvious timing marks. Most of the time there was only the crank and only one camshaft to deal with and the pulleys went on one way. Times are changing.
European Influence. In the past, most of the vehicles that did require specialty cam/crank holders and line-up tools were Volkswagen's, BMW's and Volvo's. More cars sold in the US are using European designed or influence engines. They are not as easy to work on, some have VVT (Variable Valve Timing), SOHC (Single Over Head Cam), DOHC (Double Over Head Cam) engines that aren't nearly as simple. Now with American cars using more engine designs from overseas, auto technicians are finding that the old familiar timing marks that were stamped on the timing covers or pulleys are now gone.
Ford Explorer. One very popular engine that requires cam and crank alignment tools is the German built 4.0 SOHC that is used in Ford Explorers from 1997 and up. Rotunda has been selling specialty tools for years that are used for holding the proper alignment of the cams and crank, since the pulleys can be pressed on in any position. There are eight tools required to align and hold everything in place when aligning the crank and cams. As with many Ford Rotunda specialty tools, once they have been the exclusive supplier of specific dealer required tools for a certain period of time, they start selling these auto tools under the OTC (Owatonna Tool Company) label. The above mentioned Rotunda equivalent auto tools are in a kit, the OTC6488-OCDEM.
All Makes. Ford is not the only manufacturer that uses European designed engines that require these specialty tools. Chevrolet and Chrysler also have gone with import designs for their engines as well. Alignment tools required for Chrysler are usually labeled Miller specialty tools and Chevrolet required specialty tools are usually labeled as Kent Moore. Rotunda, Miller, Kent Moore and OTC specialty tools along with many other brand names are all under the SPX Corporation (Sealed Power Corporation) umbrella.
Professional Repairs. Since there are many different specialty auto tools required for changing timing chains or aligning the old timing chain after having a cylinder head off, this precludes many DIY's (Do It Yourselfers) from tackling this type of job. This is good news for professional auto repair shops that are willing to invest in specialty auto tools like the OTC6488-OCDEM required to repair these engines. For the well equipped auto repair shop, there will be no shortage of repair work in the future.

If you live in a region that delivers harsh winters with snow and ice, it might be necessary to purchase tirechains. Tirechains give your tires more traction when driving through slippery road conditions. They attach to the drive wheels of the car, and are made to fit specific tire sizes and styles. The downsides are that tirechains will only allow your car to go about fifty miles per hour, and they greatly reduce your car's fuel efficiency, but in the snowy and ice right circumstances, they are a necessity.
Different states have different laws regarding tirechains, so make sure you find out the law in your state before you purchase chains for your tires. In some states, chains are required when the weather gets to a certain condition. The states with no chain laws at all are Vermont, Ohio, New Hampshire, Maine, Missouri, Washington DC, and Florida.
To install tirechains, first you have to know whether you have a front-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive vehicle. Since the chains are designed to give more traction, they belong on the driving wheels. Make sure your tires don't have any special needs in regards to tires. Certain limited clearance tires (like "class S" tires) need special chains.
Before you apply the chains to your tires, make sure you are out of harm's way and not near traffic. Make sure your emergency brake is set and that your car's engine is off. Carefully lay the chains evenly on the ground parallel to one another. The chains should be flat, with no twists or kinks in them.
Keeping the fastener hook on the inside, apply the chains to the drive tires. Make sure the chains are smooth and flat against the tire, and reach around and fasten the fastener ("J hook") into the "keeper" link. Pull the slack toward the sidewall of the tire.
Disengage the emergency brake, start the engine, and drive forward a foot or so. Reengage the emergency brake, turn off the engine, and once again pull the slack out of the chains and refasten them tighter.
If there is anymore slack, you can cut extra links off with bolt cutters or gather them up and secure them with those rigid plastic zip ties.
If these instructions seem confusing at all, make sure you read all instructions that come with your snow chains and if you have questions about that, ask a qualified professional to assist you. Improperly attached snow tires can be even more dangerous than driving without the chains at all. Your safety and the safety of your passengers is of utmost importance, so if you are the least bit squeamish or nervous about applying the chains yourself, make sure you ask your mechanic or more mechanically inclined friend to help you.
Even with snow chains, it is important to follow the right steps to driving safely in inclement weather conditions. Stay aware, stay awake, and keep your eyes on the road.
